Steve Chen is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Orange County office of Haynes and Boone. He specializes in preparing and prosecuting patent applications and counseling clients on intellectual property matters. Steve has written patents in broad technology areas including GPS, wireless communication systems, semiconductors, and integrated circuits. He has also performed technical analysis in patent litigation and prepared opinions pertaining to intellectual property rights. In addition, Steve has developed IP portfolio roadmaps and provided strategic counseling for engineering start-ups.
Steve has more than 20 years of experience in leading the development of pioneering technologies as an entrepreneur, founder, consultant, and innovator at major technology companies. He is the inventor on numerous patents and has published in technical journals.
In April 2010, Steve won the European Patent Office’s Inventor of the Year Award for his invention on powerful chipsets designed to enhance the availability, accuracy and effectiveness of GPS technology. In winning the award, the EPO credits Steve and his co-inventor’s invention with the success and mass popularity of GPS technology today.
