Walter Schleimer is a partner in the Finance Practice Group in Haynes and Boone's New York office and a co-chair of the firm's Real Estate section. He practices commercial real estate law, with a primary focus on finance transactions. Walter regularly represents investment banks, commercial banks, debt funds and foreign lending institutions in their mortgage loan, mezzanine loan, preferred equity and other complex real estate transactions. He also represents investment funds and REITs in their financing transactions, including structured loans, syndicated loans, subscription lines and other credit facilities. Walter represents institutional lenders and borrowers in their loan work-outs and restructurings, including complex CMBS restructures, as well as matters that result in mortgage foreclosure, UCC sales or other enforcement proceedings or bankruptcy resolution. Walter represents institutional owners and developers in acquisition, joint venture, redevelopment, sales, and other traditional real estate transactions. He has also been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers for Real Estate Law (2006-2013).
Selected Representative Experience
FKF Madison Park Group Owner, LLC Chapter 11
Represented a joint venture, in which the managing member was one of the nation's top real estate development firms, in the acquisition through the bankruptcy process of the debtors' equity in a luxury Manhattan condominium project where secured debt alone is approximately $250 million. Assisted with and coordinated all aspects of the joint venture's efforts, including development of strategy, negotiations with adverse parties, and handling all of the joint venture's transactional, bankruptcy and litigation requirements.
