DIVERSITY AND STATISTICS

Overview. We are proud of the ethnic and cultural diversity of our people, and the pivotal role women and minorities have played in our firm’s development. Haynes and Boone’s growth in terms of diversity, number of lawyers, and experience has been noteworthy. We have aggressively recruited outstanding students from the best law schools in the country. While in our early years we interviewed only at law schools in Texas, today approximately forty–one percent (41%) of our lawyers are graduates of law schools located outside of Texas. Further, our lawyers come from more than 46 states and 26 foreign countries.

Commitment to Diversity. We have established the Haynes and Boone Minority Scholars Program available to first year students at SMU Dedman School of Law and the University of Texas School of Law. Haynes and Boone scholars receive a monthly stipend, a summer clerkship at Haynes and Boone, and a mentor to provide guidance during the student’s first year in law school.

We recognize that to be responsive to the changing business environment and our evolving client base, our lawyers must reflect the diversity of our clients and the communities in which we live. According to a recent national survey of the 250 largest U.S. law firms, we ranked 72nd in percentage of minority lawyers and first among Texas–based firms. As of December 31, 2006, 21 (11%) of our partners and 43 (16%) of our associates and of counsel are minorities and 38 (19%) of our partners and 93 (35%) of our associates and of counsel are women. We strongly believe that cultural and ethnic diversity enhances innovation and the delivery of quality legal services to a diverse marketplace.

Attorney Development and Diversity Program. We have two partners who co–chair the Firm’s Development & Diversity program, which is devoted to ensuring the advancement and retention of all attorneys, including our women and minority attorneys. Special attention is paid to mentoring and training, to assist each attorney in excelling in all aspects of the practice of law, including the development of legal and business development skills and community involvement. The Development and Diversity co–chairs solicit input and assistance from a cross–section of the firm, including a large number of the firm’s women and minority attorneys.

The following tables indicate our record in hiring and retaining minority and women lawyers:

Growth Statistics. The chart below reflects the substantial growth in lawyers Haynes and Boone has enjoyed during its 35–plus year history. We grew by 300% in the decade of the ’70s, 700% in the ’80s and 100% in the ’90s, but we have not been part of a merger. Instead, our growth has been fueled by the demand for our services, which we have met by hiring graduating law students and experienced lateral attorneys.
