HISTORY

Beginnings. In 1964, Richard D. Haynes opened his solo law office in Dallas. While he was teaching a securities law seminar, he met Michael M. Boone, a student at the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University. Upon graduating in 1967, Boone joined Haynes. With a primary focus on corporate securities work, through their good fortune, they handled more than 15 initial public offerings during the “hot-issue” market of 1968 and 1969. This instant client base became the springboard for the development of a major U.S. law firm. On January 1, 1970, they formed the partnership of Haynes and Boone.

Growth History. Haynes and Boone has enjoyed substantial growth over its 30-plus year history. Today, with almost 500 lawyers, the firm is the 4th largest law firm headquartered in Texas and the 88th largest among U.S. firms. We have been one of the fastest growing law firms in the nation during the past three decades. In addition to our growth in numbers, we have established more than 35 major practice areas and have expanded geographically to ten offices.

The firm opened its Fort Worth office in 1984, its Austin downtown office in 1986, its San Antonio office in 1988, a Houston office in 1990, and Mexico City and Washington, D.C. offices in 1994. As part of our commitment to serving the technology industry, the firm opened an office in Richardson in 1997. Most recently, the firm opened its New York City office in 2004 and Moscow office in 2005.
