Haynes and Boone in Law360: Rackspace Gets 'Troll's' Graphics Patent Nixed By PTAB

09/24/2014

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board has ruled that Rotatable Technologies LLC's patent on a method of rotating windows on a computer display is invalid as obvious in a win for cloud computing company Rackspace Hosting Inc., which challenged the patent and called Rotatable a "patent troll."

The board handed down its final decision on Friday in the inter partes review under the America Invents Act, finding that the patented technology, which Rotatable has accused numerous companies of infringing, was obvious in view of two earlier graphics patents and the user guide for Adobe Systems Inc.'s Photoshop software.

Rackspace, which challenged the patent last year after being sued for infringement, has been vocal about its opposition to companies that it calls patent trolls...

Rackspace is represented by David McCombs, Andrew S. EhmkeMichael S. Parsons and John Russell Emerson of Haynes and Boone, LLP.
