NEW YORK - Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner David Siegal, a former federal prosecutor, discussed the use of wiretaps during government investigations as part of NBC New York's coverage of FBI hedge fund raids conducted Nov. 22.
FBI agents searched the offices of three hedge funds in an ongoing insider trading investigation that is expected to result in arrests of Wall Street traders and brokers.
The FBI searched the offices of Level Global Investors along Seventh Avenue in Manhattan as well as Diamondback Capital Management in Stamford, Conn., and Loch Capital in Boston. FBI spokesman Richard Kolko confirmed the searches, saying agents were armed with "court-authorized search warrants."
Between 1999 and 2009, Mr. Siegal was an assistant U.S. attorney in the criminal division of the Southern District of New York, serving as a lead prosecutor on numerous complex white collar investigations and prosecutions, federal criminal jury trials and Second Circuit appeals. As a member of that office's Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force between 2005 and 2009, David investigated and prosecuted a wide variety of securities industry related matters, including accounting fraud schemes, market manipulation, insider trading and investment adviser fraud.
