1L Programs

Diversity Scholars Program

The Haynes and Boone 1L Diversity Scholars Program has been established to attract outstanding diverse students to the private practice of law while helping these students be successful in law school through both work and mentorship experiences afforded by the program. Our Scholars Program includes a paid 1L Summer Clerkship with Haynes and Boone and a stipend during the school year. Haynes and Boone is committed to recruiting, retaining and advancing diverse lawyers and our Scholars Program is one of the many programs we have implemented to contribute toward enhancing the diversity of our firm and profession.

Since 2003, our firm has participated in the Houston Bar Association 1L Minority Scholars program that provides a summer clerkship in our Houston office to a first-year minority law student from one of the three area law schools in Houston. For more information about this initiative, please contact the Recruiting Offices of one of these schools.

The firm also participates in the New York City Bar Diversity Fellowship Program, which is available to all underrepresented populations in the field of law. The goal of the Fellowship Program is to offer first-year students from underrepresented populations a unique summer employment opportunity in outstanding law firms and corporate law departments.

Fast Track Program

The Haynes and Boone Fast Track Program is a one-week clerkship that is intended to familiarize a law student with the Texas legal market and life at a large law firm while giving participants an in-depth look at the people and practices at Haynes and Boone. This ground-breaking alternative to the traditional summer program provides a unique opportunity to experience Haynes and Boone’s dynamic culture and meet other exceptionally qualified 1L students from top law schools.

General 1L Program

The 1L Program offers a six to ten week clerkship (varies by city) with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily life of a Haynes and Boone attorney. The 2019 program will begin May 13 in the following cities: Dallas, Houston, New York, Orange County, Palo Alto and Richardson.
