HOUSTON – Haynes and Boone Partner Casey Wallace has been named recipient of the 2011 Elizabeth B. Wells Memorial Award given by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) for his service as chairman of the Harris County Housing Authority.
NAHRO is the leading community development advocate for the provision of adequate and affordable housing and its members include 3,175 housing authorities and more than 16,000 individual commissioners. Mr. Wallace is only the 15th commissioner to have ever been honored with this award, which recognizes a public housing commissioner who demonstrates excellence in bridging the divide between the private sector, governmental entities and non-profit communities.
This represents the third time Mr. Wallace has been honored for his service to the Harris County Housing Authority. He was previously recognized in Texas as Commissioner of the Year and by Southwest NAHRO, which encompasses a seven-state region.
The Harris County Housing Authority leads the way in promoting high quality, affordable housing and development. During Mr. Wallace’s tenure, it has opened four new housing developments and provided $175 million in services to 20,000 families who lost their homes in weather-related disasters in 41 states. Mr. Wallace is laying the groundwork for two new senior housing developments to open in 2012 and a one-of-a kind master planned community for United States veterans.
At Haynes and Boone, Mr. Wallace draws on more than 20 years in public and private practice to provide his clients with extensive trial experience and a unique perspective on the interplay between the public and private sectors. Before joining Haynes and Boone, Mr. Wallace served as Litigation Bureau Chief at the Harris County Attorney's Office handling hundreds of matters including civil rights disputes, condemnation, and commercial litigation.
The Elizabeth B. Wells Memorial Award will be presented to Mr. Wallace at the NAHRO National Conference and Exhibition in St. Louis, Mo.
