Bankruptcy Attorney Luis Mejan Joins Haynes and Boone Mexico City

MEXICO CITYDr. Luis Manuel C. Méjan, a veteran bankruptcy and business restructuring attorney and longtime university professor, has taken an of counsel position with the Haynes and Boone SC Mexico City office.

Dr. Méjan spent 30 years as a lawyer in the Banco Nacional de México legal department, occupying positions including executive vice president - legal counselor to the CEO, deputy secretary of the  board of directors of Banco Nacional de México, S. A. and the financial group Banamex Accival, S.A. de C.V.

From 2000 to 2009, Dr. Méjan was chairman of the board of directors and president of Mexico's Instituto Federal de Especialistas de Concursos Mercantiles, the agency that oversees administration of insolvency proceedings and develops rules of federal court practice and procedures.

During 2010, Dr. Méjan took a sabbatical to research insolvency law at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

In the academic field, Dr. Méjan has been a law professor since 1962 in a variety of educational centers. He currently teaches in the ITAM's law school and is member of the faculties of the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico, D. F. and in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

He is the author of several books on insolvency, banking and civil law, and is a lecturer at Mexican universities, professional schools and associations, private groups, service clubs, notary colleges and for many seminars and congresses both in México and abroad.

Dr. Méjan is or has been a member of prestigious professional organizations, including the Advisory Board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration in Dallas, TX; Customers' Board of Legal INFOSEL; Regulatory and Ethical Committee of Mex-Der (Derivatives Market); Legal Group of the Year 2000 National Conversion Commission; Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Empresas, A. C. (National Association of Company Lawyers); Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados (Mexican Bar - Lawyers' Association), Academia Mexicana de Derecho Financiero, Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal, International Insolvency Institute, American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL International and has been the Chairman of the International Association of Insolvency Regulators.

Dr. Méjan is a member of the Mexican Delegation to the UNCITRAL's group five "Insolvency" and of the World Bank's Task Force on Insolvency. He has been a consultant in specific projects of the World Bank Group.

He holds a law degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and a Ph.D. from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
