Companies in the energy industry are regulated by a seemingly endless number of governmental agencies - the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and others. To further complicate matters, energy companies often must address concurrent investigations from multiple regulatory agencies.
