The Patents Practice Group at Haynes and Boone provides clients with a full range of services to protect and profit from their intellectual property.

We routinely handle patent prosecution – we’ve filed more than 19,000 applications in the United States and abroad in the past five years – and we offer sophisticated counseling and portfolio management, as well as representation in post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), litigation in federal courts and cases before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

In 2021, Chambers USA, Chambers & Partners, recognized Haynes and Boone as "particularly esteemed for its USPTO practice," and Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), Globe White Page Ltd, included fourteen of our partners among their Patent 1000 list of top IP lawyers in the world. IAM also designated Haynes and Boone as a "recommended firm" for patent law. Additionally in 2021, Managing Intellectual Property, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, named six of our partners as "IP Stars" and one as a "Notable Practitioner."

A majority of our large team of patent lawyers and dedicated patent litigators have technical and science backgrounds, having worked as biologists, computer programmers, doctors, engineers, physicists and technical salespeople. Many have worked extensively in their respective fields as entrepreneurs, teachers, inventors and in-house counsel.

As a result, we approach IP matters with a focus on delivering practical solutions and achieving business goals for our clients, whether they are small startups, middle-market companies or large multinational corporations.
