Haynes and Boone Office Earns D.C. Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award
– The Haynes and Boone, LLP District of Columbia office
has been designated the D.C. Bar Association’s 2011 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award for its “outstanding pro bono work and many hours of service.”
The bar will recognize the firm at the Celebration of Leadership: The D.C. Bar’s Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting on June 30 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel. Associates Nora Whitehead
and Maryam Khosharay, two of the lawyers who helped lead the firm’s D.C. pro bono efforts, will accept the award for the firm.
“This is a truly gratifying honor that reflects an extraordinary dedication to our community by our D.C.-based attorneys,” said Jim Wade, office administrative partner. “Nine of our attorneys devoted more than 1,200 hours to a variety of worthwhile projects during 2010. It’s that kind of effort that really makes a difference in providing the poor and underprivileged communities across Washington with the legal services and representation they deserve.”
Many of the clients taken were referred through the office’s ongoing relationship with the D.C. Bar Justice & Advocacy Clinic. The Haynes and Boone team donated legal skills to a variety of individual and corporate representations, including Social Security and disability appeals, landlord-tenant matters, tax matters, and a copyright dispute.
The D.C. office has renewed its commitment to pro bono service in 2011, again participating in the D.C. Bar Justice & Advocacy Clinic and beginning a relationship with the Baltimore and Arlington, Va, offices of the Tahirih Justice Center.
