Haynes and Boone Mourns the Passing of Partner Kirk L. Worley

Our firm mourns the passing of our friend and partner, Kirk L. Worley, described by his colleagues as “A man who was good in every way.” Kirk joined the firm in 1996, after working with us as a summer associate; he later became a partner in 2005.

Kirk was universally liked and respected by his fellow lawyers and staff members, always willing to help others no matter how busy he was, and was an exceptional lawyer who had no ego and epitomized Haynes and Boone’s teamwork culture.  He was known by all for his devotion to his wife and children.  Kirk was active in his son’s little league football team, ultimately coaching them through a championship season.   Kirk’s friend and colleague, Mike Powell, said of him, “You could trust whatever Kirk said and did, as a lawyer and as a friend. He had a great presence and confidence in court without being arrogant and was always thoroughly prepared.”

Kirk leaves behind his wife and two children, as well as his parents and many other loving family members and friends.

We remember Kirk with respect and admiration.  He will be dearly missed.

The Houston office of Haynes and Boone ranks as the seventh largest law firm in the city, according to the Houston Business Journal’s Book of Lists in August 2012.

Haynes and Boone | Houston, Texas

Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States and is home to the third largest employment center in the region, the Energy Corridor, which consists of more than 300 international and national energy companies. In the fall of 2013, Forbes predicted that within a decade Houston will be known as "America's next great global city." Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, with 50 medical institutions. The City of Houston is known as the city that built the country’s busiest port for foreign tonnage, and has the sixth largest airport system in the world. All of these factors make this multi-cultural city a leader in industry, international trade, commerce and finance. Our full-service Houston office is responsive to the rising demands this places on businesses within the region and the local economy.

Haynes and Boone’s Houston office is involved in a wide array of corporate transactions and litigation work, with particular focus on the needs of Houston’s business community. Heavy emphasis is placed on the following sectors: Energy, and Oil & Gas, as well as Real Estate, Intellectual Property, Technology, Environmental, Business Litigation, Appeals, Business Reorganization, Bankruptcy, Labor and Employment, Tax, Corporate Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions, Public and International Law.

But our lawyers do even more: they are community leaders who give back much more than they take. In 2011, the Houston office was recognized by the Houston Bar Association as an Equal Access to Justice Champion for its continued support through the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. Our lawyers also serve as members of boards and in executive-level positions with many of the major cultural, educational, philanthropic and religious organizations in the city, as well as in leadership positions within bar and industry-related organizations.
