Haynes and Boone, LLP is pleased to present the next luncheon seminar in our Energy Projects Series. This program will focus on important changes in how the energy markets are harmonizing electric power development among natural gas, coal and alternative energy fuel sources.
For years, alternative energy has been striving to be a major player in replacing coal-fired electricity generation assets. Some wind, solar and other alternative energy projects may now face stiff competition from cheaper natural gas-fired electricity generation plants based on recently abundant shale gas. Should this make clean energy proponents nervous? Or might increasing supplies of natural gas, and the continued viability of coal, be a blessing in disguise for clean energy technologies?
Our panel will seek to address questions such as:
- Will less-expensive gas generation be a substitute or a complement to renewable energy?
- How will gas and renewables affect future construction of coal-fired power?
- Will the market support new gas and coal plants to take pressure off renewables until improved storage technologies provide better answers to intermittency issues?
