Mike Boone on KRLD's CEO Spotlight: The Future of the Texas Legal Market Looks Bright
Firm co-founder Mike Boone, as a prelude to his induction into the Junior Achievement Dallas Business Hall of Fame, surveyed prospects for the Texas legal market and Haynes and Boone, LLP for KRLD's David Johnson on the April 29 segment of "CEO Spotlight."
Among his observations were that Texas, now home to the most Fortune 500 company headquarters, continues to grow in stature in the business and legal realms. "[W]e feel Texas is the great legal market to be in," he said. "We think New York and California are also very strong, but we are focused to make sure we protect our back yard so to speak. We are headquartered in Texas, but certainly have a major presence in California and New York now. But we think that Texas will still be a major driver for our firm longterm, both locally and internationally."
Mr. Boone also said he intends to continuing practicing law now that he has stepped back from day-to-day management responsibilities. "We started working on transition management for our firm about ten years ago," he said. "We have a great managment team led by Terry Conner and Tim Powers and Rick Fijolek and many others in the firm and around our 12 different offices. They've taken the reins and run with it. But several of us have wanted to stay on and fully practice full time. That's what I've been doing the last three years -- really spending much more time practicing law, which I really enjoy the most. I like managment but solving problems for clients and helping people achieve their goals and objectives in business transactions or family matters is a high for me, and so I really enjoy and thrive on that."
