David McCombs in Dallas Business Journal: Innovation, Growth Making Texas Hub for IP Work
Texas' growing economy is yielding busy days for lawyers who protect intellectual property with patents, trademarks and lawsuits.
"Innovation in oil field services, software and medical devices is contributing to much of the intellectual property work in Texas," said David McCombs, a partner in Haynes and Boone, LLP in the Dallas office. "Texas has always been a very strong environment for international business. And because Texas is so business-friendly, we have many international companies with operations here."
There's also work to do abroad. Electronics and semiconductor makers in Texas have been setting up joint ventures in foreign countries to get products made there and supply new markets, which further drives up demand for intellectual property legal services.
