Haynes and Boone Partners with Client American Airlines for Pro Bono Project
Haynes and Boone has partnered with the in-house legal department at American Airlines to support the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP), an organization run by the Dallas Bar Association to increase and enhance pro bono legal services for the poor.
The project was nearly nine months in the making. Championing the effort were Haynes and Boone partner and chair of the firm’s Public Service Committee Alan Wright and bankruptcy partner Bob Albergotti. Associate Bart Biggers collaborated with American Airlines attorney Vince Carver on recruitment and tactical planning.
Together Haynes and Boone and American Airlines enlisted more than 30 volunteer attorneys. Paired into legal teams of two, the attorneys signed up for 17 cases following an initial DVAP training session held on August 20 at the firm’s Dallas office. Although cases will vary by need, the attorneys are primarily handling child advocacy and family law matters.
Project leader Alan Wright said, "I think all in all it was a very positive experience. It was a great opportunity to meet our client attorney counterparts in a different kind of setting and to do some good work together."
Haynes and Boone plans to emulate the project with other key clients in its 10 U.S. offices. Planning has already started in Houston.
