Haynes and Boone Franchise Practice Draws Praise in Chambers USA
Editors of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2012 have singled out the Haynes and Boone, LLP Franchise and Distribution practice as one of the nation’s best, setting it apart from all others in the Dallas market.
The full-service practice, the editors concluded, is “renowned for its franchise litigation and transactional work, with an increasing focus on international franchise development in emerging markets.” Its leaders have built up considerable experience in product distribution and “in the restaurant and food service industry, with notable expertise in the area of food safety,” the editors said.
Within the practice’s national Band 2 ranking, Partner Joyce Mazero maintained her top, Band 1 rating, while Deborah S. Coldwell repeated her Band 2 appearance. No other Dallas-area practice achieved similar results. The two make "a well-respected leadership team," according to those interviewed by the Chambers researchers.
Mazero was lauded by her peers as "a wonderful business lawyer." The editors quoted industry sources as saying, "She is a long-standing force in franchising," citing the recent accomplishment of representing Tempur-pedic in reshaping its supply chain legal processes. Coldwell, meanwhile, was described as an "outstanding trial lawyer" who successfully defended Curves International against claims brought by a former International master franchisee.
Two more members of the practice were included for the first time in this year’s recognitions. Partner Jan Gilbert of the Washington, D.C. office made his debut in Band 4, while Austin Partner Robert Lauer joined as “up and coming.” Editors said that Gilbert is "very sophisticated and impressive" and highly regarded for his technical skills. Lauer, who concentrates on international transactions, “is an outstanding lawyer," Chambers quoted sources saying.
