Profile

Jay Hoon Byun assists a variety of electronics and information technology companies to resolve intellectual property disputes and protect their intellectual property rights. Jay often serves as a first responder in initial stages of intellectual property disputes, and helps clients respond to threats by preparing opinions and performing pre-litigation and pre-licensing analysis of legal issues. When an early resolution of a dispute is not found, Jay’s support continues into pretrial stages of district court litigation and post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition, Jay helps clients obtain and protect their intellectual property rights by preparing and prosecuting patent applications.

Jay’s prior experience as a researcher and a teaching assistant in the computer architecture field, which lies in the intersection of electronics and software systems, has allowed him to understand and explain technical concepts in diverse technology areas involving imaging devices, image processing, wireless communication and networking, analog devices, power systems, microprocessors, Internet-related business methods, distributed systems, and other analog and digital electronics and software technologies.

Native of South Korea, Jay understands the culture and language of Asia-based clients, and has served as a trusted liaison for Asia-based clients seeking legal representation in the U.S.
