Profile

Chris Castillo is an associate in the Bankruptcy and Business Restructuring Practice Group in the Houston office of Haynes and Boone, LLP. His practice focuses on bankruptcy and insolvency law and related financings, dispositions, acquisitions, litigation and other restructuring transactions. His experience includes the representation of Chapter 11 debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, as well as other parties-in-interest in a variety of business restructuring matters.

  • Represented Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank as the prepetition lender and agent, and DIP Lender, in the Chapter 11 cases of Trinity Coal Company in Lexington, Kentucky. 
  • Represented Rabobank International in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Peak Broadcasting, LLC in Wilmington, Delaware. 
  • Represented Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank as the prepetition lender in the involuntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of South Edge, LLC, a Las Vegas area master planned community. 
  • Represented a major American multinational oil and gas corporation in various bankruptcy related litigation matters in various venues across the United States. 

Significant Distressed M&A Transactions

  • Represented Ultra Petroleum in the acquisition of assets from debtor The Banning Lewis Ranch Company, LLC. 
  • Represented Newfield Exploration Company in the acquisition of assets from Chapter 11 debtor TXCO Resources, Inc. 
  • Represented Americas Mining Corporation as the corporate parent and successful plan proponent in a multi-billion dollar, multi-week contested confirmation hearing.

Significant Debtor Representations

  • Represented Pisces Energy, LLC and Palm Energy Partners, LLC, as debtors, in successful the Chapter 11 reorganization of oil and gas operations. 
  • Represented ASARCO LLC in post-confirmation claims, substantial contribution and other related litigation following the company's reorganization.

Other Significant Bankruptcy and Restructuring Representations

  • Represented various parties, including debtors and secured and unsecured creditors, in various Chapter 15 bankruptcy cases, cross-border restructurings, and other insolvency situations in Mexico and Canada.
