No client should attempt to negotiate the crossroads of business and environmental law and policy without an experienced lawyer. Alec always strives to explore the unique business opportunities and advantages to be gained through innovative environmental strategies.
Alec has represented clients before the federal Environmental Protection Agency, the California Air Resources Board and other state and federal agencies in just about every capacity. He has successfully resolved enforcement proceedings; assisted clients in successfully influencing and, where necessary, challenging agency rulemakings; achieved regulatory relief on behalf of clients through negotiations with federal and state regulators; and counseled clients on often complex and confusing environmental regulations. Alec has developed a keen understanding, in particular, of the automotive and non-road (construction equipment, marine etc.) sectors and the many facets of environmental law and policy that impact these businesses. And he has adopted and follows a philosophy of not just saving his clients money through environmental compliance, but helping them prosper through strategies that recognize and take advantage of unique business opportunities associated with environmental laws and regulations. Alec is co-editor for the American Bar Association’s Clean Air Act Handbook. He also has knowledge and experience with clean water, hazardous waste and other environmental laws, and recognizes the value of developing a holistic compliance strategy that accounts for risks and opportunities in all environmental mediums. Alec has significant experience litigating environmental and toxic tort cases, including representing clients in UST and MTBE-related litigation. In addition, Alec has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for his work in environmental litigation, and by Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers for environmental law.
Alec and his wife Amy also are founders of a nonprofit ministry, 25:40, dedicated to saving orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa from poverty, disease, violence and abuse, www.2540.org.
