American Cancer Society Names Thomas J. Williams 2003 St. George Award Winner

FORT WORTH, TEXAS— The American Cancer Society recently honored Thomas J. Williams, an attorney at Haynes and Boone L.L.P., with its 2003 St. George Award. Mr. Williams has been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society’s Texas Division since 1982.

The St. George award is a lifetime achievement award, allowing the national arm of the American Cancer Society the opportunity to recognize the outstanding work of division-level volunteers and their contributions to the cause of eliminating cancer. The award is presented to no more than two division-level volunteers per year and recognizes long-term service to the local division in multiple programs and operations areas, and successful transition through the leadership chairs of the division. Mr. Williams was Chairman of the Board of the American Cancer Society’s Texas Division from 1999 to 2001.

Mr. Williams has more than 20 years of experience in business litigation, libel, privacy and other media law matters.  He has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" in the field of First Amendment Law since 1991.  He is a frequent speaker on media law and First Amendment issues, serves on the State Bar of Texas Public Affairs Committee, and is a director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. He has been an adjunct instructor in media law at Texas Christian University. Mr. Williams earned his J.D., with honors, from University of Texas School of Law in 1975. He earned his B.A. from University of Texas in 1973.
