DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, an international law firm, announces that Albert Tan, a Partner in the firm’s International and Finance sections, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Asia Society Texas.  Mr. Tan will join Trammell Crow, and James Falk, President of the Dallas World Affairs Council, as one of three Asia Society Texas directors from Dallas.

“Texas has one of the fastest-growing international communities in the United States; and last year, Asia-Pacific nations made up 7 of the top 10 largest trading partners for North Texas,” said Mr. Tan. “I’m honored to be chosen as a representative of one of the leading organizations for fostering communication and understanding between Asia and United States.  It’s important to promote an environment in which cultural differences expand opportunities, rather than create barriers.”

The Asia Society is a leading nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to fostering understanding of Asia and communication between Americans and the people of the Asia-Pacific region.  The Asia Society provides a forum for building awareness of the opportunities, issues, trends and cultures of Asia to the American people through briefings, lectures, seminars and conferences, as well as art exhibitions and performances, films, publications and assistance to the media, and materials and programs for its members ranging from corporations, governmental organizations, public and private foundations, educational institutions, individuals and others.

At Haynes and Boone, Mr. Tan’s practice focuses on debt financing and cross-border transactions, including project development and finance, with an emphasis on representation of domestic and foreign financial institutions in the United States and foreign direct investment and project development transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.  His experience includes negotiating and documenting secured and unsecured credit facilities, joint ventures, project development transactions, and construction contract claims in China, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and the United States.  Mr. Tan has practiced in Hong Kong as Chief Counsel for Greater China of Caltex Corporation (a wholly-owned subsidiary of ChevronTexaco).

Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international law firm with nine offices throughout Texas, Washington, D.C., Mexico City and New York, providing a full spectrum of legal services to clients around the world.
