FORT WORTH – Media law specialist Thomas J. Williams of Haynes and Boone, LLP received this year’s  prestigious Professionalism Award at the Tarrant County Bar Association’s Law Day ceremonies held Thursday at the Ridglea Country Club.

Mr. Williams, a partner with the Fort Worth Haynes and Boone office, was honored as the bar member who best “exemplifies, by conduct and character, professional traits that others in the bar should try to emulate.”

“This is certainly a well-deserved honor for Tom,” said Brian D. Barnard, the firm’s Fort Worth administrative partner. “Anyone who has ever encountered Tom comes away impressed with his gracious, congenial professional countenance.  Tom is the embodiment of the bar’s Professionalism Award, and we’re proud he is a part of the  Haynes and Boone team.”

The Professionalism Award was established in 2000 by the Tarrant County association to recognize inspiring role models who are respected by their peers. In accepting the award, Mr. Williams joins some of the brightest luminaries of Tarrant County law. Most recently, recipients have included Louis E. Sturns (2005), Roland K. Johnson (2004), Tom Hill (2003) and John Gray (2002).

Mr. Williams has developed extensive experience in business, libel, intellectual property, and media law litigation.  He has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" for First Amendment Law in every edition of that publication since 1991.

In his practice, Mr. Williams has represented numerous publishing and broadcasting companies in a variety of matters including defense of libel and invasion of privacy claims, access to public information matters, and free press-fair trial issues. He also was counsel to a major Texas newspaper in two appeals to the Texas Supreme Court in a significant invasion of privacy case.

A University of Texas undergraduate who graduated from the UT law school with honors in 1975, Mr. Williams is admitted to practice in Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.

He is a Life Fellow with the Texas Bar Foundation, a sustaining Life Fellow with Tarrant County Bar Foundation, and a member of the Media Law Resource Center, Inc., Defense Counsel Section.
