DALLAS – Partner Stacey G.C. Jernigan, who began her career as a summer clerk for Haynes and Boone, LLP 18 years ago, is leaving the firm to accept appointment as judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division.

“Although we will all miss Stacey, becoming a bankruptcy judge is something that she has worked very hard for, and well deserves,” said firm managing partner Robert Wilson.  “Certainly, our loss is the Bench’s gain.”

Ms. Jernigan played a major role in the expansion of the Haynes and Boone bankruptcy practice, and has been a model of client service, integrity and professionalism, Mr. Wilson said.

With a practice that became national in scope, Ms. Jernigan focused on complex Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. Recognition of her talents quickly spread.

In 2001, Ms. Jernigan was appointed adviser to the California Legislature in connection with the financial crisis that rocked California utility companies. She was recently elected fellow to the American College of Bankruptcy, a national organization that honors and recognizes distinguished bankruptcy lawyers and judges. And in 2005, she was named one of the leading Texas bankruptcy lawyers by Chambers USA America’s “Leading Lawyers for Business.” Over the years, she has remained active as a Master, Board Member, and Chapter 11 Course Instructor for the John C. Ford American Inn of Court.

“There is no doubt that Stacey will make a fine judge,” said Mr. Wilson. “It has been a privilege for all of us to have worked with her these many years.”
