DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP has added Mark Mathews to its growing Energy and Power Practice Group.  Mathews joins Haynes and Boone as a partner in the Houston office.

“As our energy practice continues to grow, it is important that we attract experienced and talented lawyers like Mark to the group,” said Buddy Clark, partner and head of Haynes and Boone’s energy practice.  “We offer our energy clients a breadth of services and cross-border capabilities and Mark’s experience is an excellent fit for our diverse team.”

Mathews brings almost 20 years of experience to Haynes and Boone.  His practice focuses on transactional and litigation work in energy related matters.  He represents large companies in exploration, production, drilling and oilfield services in matters involving acquisitions and divestitures, exploration and development agreements, master services contracts and drilling-related matters.

Mathews is a member of the State Bar of Texas and its Oil, Gas and Energy Resources law section, the Houston Bar Association and its Oil, Gas and Mineral law section, and the American Association of Professional Landmen.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law and his B.B.A. in land management from the University of Oklahoma.  He comes to Haynes and Boone from Adams and Reese, LLP.

Haynes and Boone’s Energy and Power Practice Group has seen steady growth over the past 4 quarters, adding attorneys in both its Houston and San Antonio offices.  In February of this year, the firm was included in four out of the five deals selected by Oil and Gas Investor as winners in the 2007 Oil and Gas Investor Excellence Awards, an annual recognition program which identifies stand-out executives, M&A deals and financings, wildcatting, field rejuvenation, investor relations and corporate citizenship within the oil and gas industry.  The practice group was also recognized in Chambers USA’s 2008 rankings as a leader in the Energy and Natural Resources category in Texas.

The multi-disciplined Energy and Power Practice Group has extensive experience in oil and gas, power and electric, corporate and project finance, state and federal energy regulation, labor, environment, mergers and acquisitions.  Representative clients range from traditional oil and gas companies and independent power companies to businesses that distribute, transport and use different forms of energy.
