Haynes and Boone Recognized by Chambers Global 2009

07/24/2009

DALLAS – Chambers Global 2009 has ranked Haynes and Boone, LLP among the leading international law firms conducting Latin America-wide mergers and acquisitions and general corporate work for major clients.

Brazil, Colombia and Peru, researchers noted, have become a focus of the Haynes and Boone team. The firm, Chambers pointed out, recently advised Peruvian consortium Irradia in an USD82 million credit agreement with German banks to finance an LNG plant in Peru.

Chambers also cited the firm’s work in Brazil, where it acted as international counsel for MMX Mineração e Metálicos S.A. (MMX), in connection with the financing of an integrated iron-ore mining and infrastructure logistics project relating to MMX's Amapá mining facility. The MMX financing, which consisted of a three-tranche facility aggregating US$250MM in bank facilities and R$580,000,000 of financing from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), was named one of Trade Finance magazine's 2007 “Deals of the Year.” Haynes and Boone recently has built on its Brazilian successes by adding an experienced Brazilian foreign associate to its Texas-based Latin American team.

Chambers researchers noted that Haynes and Boone has been “extremely visible in Central America,” particularly in Costa Rica where Larry B. Pascal, chair of the firm’s Americas Practice Group, has represented several investor groups developing the tourist hotspot of Guanacaste. The Central American energy sector is another area of increased firm activity.

“Inclusion in this directory is a recognition of our firm’s strong commitment to our growing body of international clients,” said Mr. Pascal. “We now have more than 50 lawyers in our overall Latin American practice, deploying teams from both Mexico City and U.S.-based offices throughout Latin America to handle a wide range of transactions.”

Also singled out for recognition was Mexico City partner Antonio Franck, who was ranked among the leaders in both Mexico Banking and Finance and Mexico Corporate M&A.

Chambers Global ranks law firms and attorneys based on review of rankings in its regional directories, including Chambers USA and Chambers Latin America, examining the extent to which the practice and its individual lawyers can serve clients from outside the jurisdiction.

The Haynes and Boone Latin American practice has been recognized as one of the leaders in Latin America by numerous business organizations and publications, including Latin Lawyer and Chambers USA. The firm has lawyers licensed in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Peru working in its offices.

As part of its Latin American practice, Haynes and Boone maintains one of the largest Mexico City practices of any U.S. law firm. Its approximately 20 Mexico City-based attorneys have a wide range of experience in handling the legal aspects of international business, foreign investment, trade regulation, project finance, infrastructure, litigation and arbitration. They are also active in community service. Latin Lawyer ranked the Haynes and Boone practice attorneys 11th in pro bono commitment in Latin America, and fourth in Mexico.

Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Moscow, providing a full spectrum of legal services. With almost 550 attorneys, Haynes and Boone is ranked among the largest law firms in the nation by The National Law Journal. The firm has been recognized as one of the "Best Corporate Law Firms in America" (Corporate Board Member Magazine, 2001-2009), as one of "The Best 20 Law Firms to Work For" (Vault.com, 2009), and as a Top 100 law firm for both diversity (MultiCultural Law Magazine, 2009) and women (Women 3.0, 2008).
