Haynes and Boone Orange County Office Takes On, Wins First Pro Bono Case

02/24/2012

ORANGE
COUNTY – The Orange County office of Haynes and Boone, LLP recently took on and won its first pro bono case.

Casey Kempner, under the supervision of Mark Erickson, represented a non-English speaking indigent housekeeper wrongly accused of making online statements that a local business owner claimed hurt their business. Under pressure from Kempner’s discovery efforts, the plaintiff was persuaded to dismiss her lawsuit with prejudice.

“This is the first of many pro bono cases our office expects to take,” said Erickson. “Our attorneys note the importance of using the law to help those people and organizations who need it most, but are unable to pay.”

The case came through the Public Law Center of Orange County, the primary non-profit legal services organization in Orange County that is supported both financially by Haynes and Boone and through the efforts of its Orange County attorneys.

The Haynes and Boone legal team was supported by business development department member Elizabeth Escobedo and her bilingual ability.

Erickson is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group and Kempner is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group.
