Ben Mesches Elected to Chair of the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers

DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Ben Mesches has been elected chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Council of Appellate Lawyers at the council’s recent business meetings in San Diego. His one-year term will begin in December.

The council is the first and only national appellate bench-bar organization in the country, comprised of distinguished appellate lawyers from across the country who work with state and federal appellate court judges nationwide to develop appellate education programs, improve appellate advocacy, and strengthen relationship between the appellate bar and the judiciary.

As chair, Ben will also serve on the executive committees of the Appellate Judges Conference, which is also part of the ABA’s Judicial Division, and the Appellate Judges Education Institute, a non-profit judicial education group based at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas.

Ben is a partner in the firm’s Appellate Practice Group and is a board-certified appellate lawyer with diverse experience in complex business, railroad, energy, and bankruptcy disputes in state and federal appellate courts.

An honors graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, he served as a law clerk to Justice Harriet O’Neill on the Supreme Court of Texas before entering private practice over a decade ago. Ben serves on the board of trustees of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, is a member of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization’s Civil Appellate Exam Commission, and previously chaired the Dallas Bar Association’s Appellate Section.
