World Trademark Review Applauds Haynes and Boone’s National Trademark Talent

02/06/2014

DALLAS – The 2014 edition of the World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000 has again awarded the Haynes and Boone, LLP Trademark Practice Group both a national silver ranking, making it tied for fifth nationally, and a Texas gold ranking, the highest possible.

“Our national silver and Texas gold ranking, as well as our lawyers’ individual rankings, reflect the fruition of our continued effort to build a nation-wide trademark practice by deepening our existing team and adding key talent on both coasts,” said Purvi Patel, chair of the firm’s Trademark Practice Group.

The guide reports that the group’s “attentive, knowledgeable and personable lawyers win enthusiastic applause for their resourceful collaboration, shrewd staffing of cases, effective cost control and excellent client rapport.”

Jeff Becker ranked both in the national and Texas-based lists for enforcement, prosecution and strategy. The guide says Becker “played a major part in the team’s ascent to the upper echelons of the market” and is known for his “canny development and commercialization of brands.” The “simply amazing” Patel joins Becker in the national and Texas rankings for prosecution and strategy, being “second to none in terms of portfolio management knowhow and a prominent contributor to the legal community, notably co-chairing the International Trademark Association’s annual meeting in 2013.”

David Bell of Dallas, too, ranked among the top trademark lawyers in Texas, being “outstanding” and “tipped as a future leader.” The guide points to his role “as head of the pioneering social media group” and says he “operates at the cutting edge of online concerns.”

Inclusion of litigators coast-to-coast further underscores the firm’s Trademark Practice Group’s national footprint. Richard Rochford of New York, Ken Parker of Orange County, and Phil Hampton of Washington, D.C., each ranked in their respective regions’ enforcement and litigation practice listings.

“The arrival of Richard Rochford in 2012 was a boon to Haynes and Boone’s New York office." Rochford was singled out as “a hugely competent and efficient professional, who deploys aggression when necessary to obtain sterling outcomes.”

Editors praised the talent of “eminent” Hampton, who “brings a wealth of experience to the table,” including through his former role as the Assistant Commissioner for Trademarks at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Parker, meanwhile, was recognized in the competitive California market. His experience “enables him to provide accurate assessments and forecasts at every step of a case.”

The WTR 1000 is a guide to the world’s leading trademark legal service providers. Guide researchers spent four months conducting telephone interviews and exchanging correspondence with lawyers and clients involved with trademarks. Law firms and practitioners qualify for inclusion in the WTR 1000 upon receiving sufficient positive feedback from market sources.
