Euromoney Recognizes Haynes and Boone as Best National Firm for Diversity in North America

DALLAS – Haynes and Boone, LLP was named the “Best National Firm for Diversity” in North America by the 2014 Americas Women in Business Law Awards, presented by Euromoney Legal Media Group at a New York City ceremony on June 5, crediting the firm’s achievement in overall diversity efforts.

“To be recognized on the national stage for our diversity initiatives is a great honor,” said Madelyn Calabrese, co-chair of the firm’s Attorney Diversity Committee (ADC). “As a firm, we strongly focus on strengthening and creating programs to develop and elevate our diverse lawyers. It is heartening to know that others have taken notice.”

Nick Even, ADC co-chair, added: “We continually evaluate our diversity programs and strive to be innovative. This award is a strong confirmation that we are on the right track. We remain fiercely committed to hiring, promoting and retaining outstanding diverse and female lawyers.”

Highlighted at the awards ceremony was Haynes and Boone’s Minority Associate Connections program, which pairs associates and leaders in the firm for formal and informal mentoring, as well as periodic programming and training. Additional firm programs, such as the Women’s Leadership Academy, an initiative designed to help guide and coach women who are nearing partnership consideration; an annual Women Partners’ Summit, a networking and career enhancing opportunity for female partners; and Women’s Lunches/Presentations in all offices providing an opportunity for female lawyers to discuss hot topics including talent development, communication and leadership skills, were also recognized as part of the overall firm’s diversity efforts.

The firm also has a Working Parents subcommittee to help develop policies and programs designed to support the unique challenges of working partners. The subcommittee offers guidance and resources to working parents, ranging from advice on childrearing issues and school referrals to work/life balance best practices.

Haynes and Boone has received various accolades for its diversity inclusion programs. Honors include the prestigious Thomas L. Sager Award in 2013, presented by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association in recognition of the firm’s commitment to diversity, and a Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum for three consecutive years. The firm was also recognized as one of the Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers “50 Best Law Firms for Women” in 2013 for the firm’s commitment to retention and advancement of women.

In addition to the firm award, four Haynes and Boone partners were shortlisted for individual awards in their respective areas: Kit Addleman (Financial Regulation), Mary Mendoza (Environment), Purvi Patel (Trademark), and Laura Prather (Media & Entertainment).

The ADC, which includes more than 60 lawyers, management and administrative team members and has seven sub-committees that regularly engage with clients, colleagues, the surrounding communities and within the firm on diversity and inclusion initiatives. The committee develops programs, with the goal of advancing the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse lawyers in the firm.
