06/19/2014

Following Managing IP’s recognition of multiple Haynes and Boone lawyers as IP Stars, five Haynes and Boone, LLP intellectual property lawyers have been honored in Intellectual Asset Magazine’s Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners 2014 legal directory.

The directory also designated Haynes and Boone as a “recommended firm” for its Patent Practice Group.

Washington, D.C. Partner Jeff Wolfson, along with Dallas Partners Randall Brown, David McCombs, Phillip Philbin and Houston Partner Mark Tidwell were all honored in the IAM 1000 2014, which identifies the top patent practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe. Individuals were selected based on feedback from market sources compiled during analyst interviews.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for these five individuals and our Intellectual Property practice as a whole,” said Terry Conner, the firm’s managing partner. “I congratulate them on this honor and look forward to the practice’s continued growth under their leadership.”

Wolfson, who co-heads the firm’s patent and post-grant practice, makes his debut as a “recommended individual” in the transactions and prosecution categories in the Washington, D.C. listing. Researchers complimented Wolfson as someone who is “right up to date on the law, extremely bright and has a wide perspective.”

McCombs, chair of the firm’s technology practice, was recognized in both the national and Texas listing for his post-grant proceeding, litigation and prosecution experience. Researchers described him as someone who “demonstrates common sense and sound judgment” and said he “has an instinct for picking the right arguments.”

“On the prosecution front,” editors wrote of the firm, “a proactive style is its calling card and the team yields fantastic results by helping companies to drive their R&D in ways that further their commercial objectives.”

Philbin, who makes his second appearance in the directory, was praised for his in-depth litigation experience in the Texas listing. He achieved a Silver ranking.

In the Texas section of the directory, Brown, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, was designated as a “recommended individual” in the prosecution category. “Brown is someone you can turn to in respect of any need,” researchers reported. “He understands his clients’ technology and products incredibly well and is perceptive concerning overall international protection strategies.”

Tidwell, a Houston partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Transactional Section, likewise is highlighted as a “recommended individual” in the Texas section. Tidwell, featured in both the prosecution and transaction categories, was praised for being “thoroughly dependable” and “is particularly applauded for his deft handling of mechanical inventions.”

Recognized as “highly recommended” for patent prosecution and “recommended” for transactions and litigation, editors called the firm’s patent practice a “natural port of call for the new proceedings” due to its in-depth patent re-examination and interference practice. The firm’s patent practice was also recognized for its prosecution experience in representing Fortune 500 companies such as Halliburton.
