Haynes and Boone Advises Celanese in $150 Million Coal-fired Boiler Plant Conversion

04/15/2015

Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers advised the Celanese Corporation on its recently completed conversion of its Narrows, Va., operation to natural gas-fired boilers, a $150 million investment that replaced coal-fired boilers with natural gas to generate the steam needed to run the plant.

The firm’s client team included Washington, D.C. Partner Arthur Cohen and Associate Robert Hayes.

Celanese’s boiler equipment conversion project provided more than 300 jobs in Giles County during the duration of the project as well as the continued support of more than 1,000 existing jobs. The plant, which has been in operation for 75 years, is one of the world’s largest producers of cellulose acetate tow, a natural and environmentally friendly product that is used for filtration applications.
