Haynes and Boone Advises TransData on Major Licensing Deal with General Electric

TransData, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of digital electricity meters and related energy measurement products for over 45 years, recently announced that the company has settled litigation with General Electric Company and granted it a license to TransData’s wireless smart meter patents consisting of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,181,294; 6,462,713; and 6,903,699. The terms of the agreement are confidential.

General Electric joins a list of current licensees that includes The Southern Company, Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power, Wisconsin Power & Light, Sensus Metering, M2M Engineering LLC, Vision Metering and Telensa Ltd.

“We are extremely pleased to have signed another patent license with a major meter manufacturer” said Trace Gleibs, president of TransData.

TransData’s smart meter patents are the subject matter of patent enforcement actions currently pending against Itron Inc. and Landis+Gyr as well as several utilities, including Oncor Electric Delivery and CenterPoint Energy.
