Jeff Civins, Suzanne Murray Help Lead EARTHx Law and Policy Symposium

Haynes and Boone, LLP Senior Counsel Jeff Civins and Partner Suzanne Murray played central roles in one of the nation’s leading environmental law events, the EARTHx Law and Policy Symposium.

Held April 20 at the State Fairgrounds in Dallas, the event attracted environmental scholars and business leaders from diverse perspectives, who discussed how to chart a course for a future that is both protective and productive. Topics included the future of environmental regulation, sustainable and ethical corporate decision-making, the future of disaster response, and domestic energy production in the wake of the Paris climate accord. 

Susan Bodine, EPA’s senior enforcement official, Anne Idsal, EPA Regional Administrator for Region 6 (TX, LA, OK, AR, and NM), Jim Payne, EPA Region 6 Regional Counsel,Texas Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton , and Jeff Mateer, First Assistant to the Texas Attorney Generalwere among the government officials who spoke at the event. Other speakers included prominent leaders of industry, academia, and NGOs.

Jeff Civins helped organize the event and served as a master of ceremonies, offering the welcoming and closing remarks while also moderating a panel discussion on how corporations can insure that their decision-making is ethical and sustainable. 

At Haynes and Boone, Civins helps clients find pragmatic solutions to tough problems involving all aspects of environmental law, including counseling them on regulatory issues, helping them manage environmental risks in business transactions, and advocating on their behalf before agencies and courts.

Suzanne Murray moderated an EARTHx panel on the future of domestic energy production post-Paris, which explored how the country can satisfy its domestic energy needs while protecting against climate change. 

Murray has practiced environmental law in the public and private sectors for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Haynes and Boone, where she represents companies in a range of environmental matters, Murray served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, acting as a general counsel responsible for all regulatory and enforcement matters in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
