Bob Albergotti Wins Lifetime Achievement Award from Texas Bar Bankruptcy Section

April 23, 2019

The Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of Texas has presented its “Banco Rotto” Award, the section’s highest honor, to recently-retired Haynes and Boone, LLP Senior Counsel Bob Albergotti.

“Banco Rotto” is Italian for “broken bench” and is the earliest phrase associated with the concept of bankruptcy. It is the origin of the English term “bankruptcy.” The Bankruptcy Law Section presents the award to “a Texas bankruptcy legend who has had a lasting impact on the development of the Texas bankruptcy practice. It is the section’s highest and most distinguished award.”

Albergotti received the Banco Rotto Award on April 18 at the Bankruptcy Section’s 2019 Bench Bar Conference in Austin.

“The award reflects Bob’s stellar service and steadfast commitment to clients over the course of his distinguished career at Haynes and Boone,” said Haynes and Boone Partner Charlie Beckham. “I can think of no one more deserving of the Banco Rotto Award.”

Haynes and Boone Managing Partner Tim Powers added: “Bob was an anchor of our Restructuring Practice Group for nearly four decades and played a major role in the group earning nationwide recognition.”

During his career, Albergotti’s work on countless high-profile restructurings earned him numerous accolades, including election as a fellow to the American College of Bankruptcy and rankings by Chambers USA, Chambers and Partners as a “Star Performer” in Texas and Nationwide. His extensive tenure and experience in all aspects of bankruptcy matters was an invaluable asset to Haynes and Boone’s restructuring team.

“I have had a rewarding and fulfilling 38-year career,” Albergotti said. “Haynes and Boone made a commitment to build a world-class bankruptcy practice in the 1970s and has never wavered from that commitment. I was privileged to be a part of that endeavor. I owe much of my success to the support of the lawyers and professional staff at the firm. I could not have hoped for a more satisfying end to my career than to receive this tremendous recognition by my bankruptcy law peers. I am humbled and flattered by this award.”
