American Lawyer Names Haynes and Boone Most Diverse Firm in Texas

May 31, 2016

Haynes and Boone, LLP has been named the most diverse large firm in Texas on The American Lawyer’s recently released 2016 Diversity Scorecard.

Among the 220 firms surveyed nationwide, Haynes and Boone is ranked No. 27 overall, up from No. 52 last year. At the firm, 19.2 percent of lawyers and 11.9 percent of partners are minorities. The next highest ranked Texas-based firm is listed at No. 37.

“Diversity is a cornerstone of Haynes and Boone culture, and we are very proud of these results,” said firm Managing Partner Tim Powers. “This recognition certainly attests to the efficacy and dedication of our Attorney Diversity and Inclusion Committee (ADIC).”

The ADIC has enacted diversity and equality-related firm policies and programs, as well as implemented innovative initiatives designed to drive minority and female hiring and retention. The committee has several outstanding sub-committees that include Minority Attorney Initiatives, LGBT and Allies Attorney Initiatives, Pipeline Initiatives, Working Parents, Recruiting and Retention, and Business Development, all designed to develop and promote diversity and inclusion as a collective and sustained focus.

“It is encouraging for our efforts to receive such a positive response,” added ADIC Chair Kenya Woodruff. “This acknowledgement is a testament to firm leadership that sets the tone at the top and continues to encourage diversity and inclusion throughout the firm’s operations.”

The American Lawyer Diversity Score is calculated by adding a firm’s percentage of minority lawyers in U.S. offices to its percentage of minority partners in U.S. offices. Counts represent average full-time equivalent (FTE) lawyers in U.S. offices for 2015.
