Houston Partner Matthew Deffebach, leader of the Haynes and Boone Labor, Employment and Immigration Practice Group and co-leader of the Litigation Department, has authored a key chapter in the recently released Aspatore Books 2016-2017 edition of "Complying with Employment Regulations: Leading Lawyers on Analyzing Legislation and Adapting to the Changing State of Employment Law."
Deffebach wrote the chapter entitled "Helping Employer Clients Stay in Compliance with the Ever-Changing Realm of Employment Law," which examines techniques that can assist business clients in complying with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and laws. Houston Associates Punam Kaji and Abby Kotun assisted in construction of the chapter.
The book is part of the Aspatore Books "Inside the Minds" series that exclusively publishes C-Level executives and partners from the world's most respected companies and law firms. Authors are selected based on their experience and C-Level standing within the business and legal communities. This particular book is intended to keep employers up to date on employment laws, which can be tricky business. "Companies are often hard-pressed to stay on top of evolving regulations, many of which are influenced by social forces outside their respective industries," the publishers say. "To best help those companies and their employees understand these evolutions and respond to them, you need to know what the major obstacles are that stand in their way."
As a litigator, Deffebach has tried as first chair six matters in just the past four years. He is often entrusted with significant trial matters. While his employment and litigation experience is vast, Deffebach’s passion is handling OSHA disputes. He has appeared in more than 22 states handling OSHA matters and is entering his 11th year as National OSHA counsel for The Home Depot.
