State Bar of California Honors Four Haynes and Boone Lawyers for Pro Bono Service

Four Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers recently received the Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for Pro Bono Legal Services from the State Bar of California.

Partner Mark Erickson and Associates Kimberly Chase, Matthew Costello and Chris Maciel were recognized for performing more than 50 hours of pro bono service in one year “with a primary purpose of providing services to the poor or on behalf of the poor or disadvantaged, improving the law and the legal system, or increasing access to justice.”

In his practice, Erickson has been solving business disputes through litigation, arbitration and mediation for more than 30 years. He handles a wide range of sophisticated commercial and real estate litigation, including contract, trade secrets, healthcare law, and business governance and dissolution disputes. Also a leader in the local bar and community, Erickson is a past president of the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Public Law Center (Orange County’s pro bono legal services organization) and serves as treasurer for the Orange County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the local bar.

Chase maintains a diversified practice that includes employment litigation and advice, copyright and trademark litigation, and commercial litigation, and she was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2013 to 2016. When not serving her clients, Chase is dedicated to improving the legal profession and helping her community. She is a member and the former co-chair of PLC Advocates, a group that assists the Public Law Center in increasing pro bono volunteerism.  She sits on the Alumni Association Board of Directors for UC Davis School of Law. She also served as the 2014-2015 co-chair of the Orange County Coalition for Diversity in the Law, which is a group of law firms and community partners who have joined forces to achieve cultural diversity in the legal community.

Costello’s practice includes a wide range of business and employment litigation matters in state and federal court. He also advises small and large employers on their employment-related matters and tirelessly litigates against employee claims in court, arbitration, and administrative proceedings. Outside of his practice, Costello works closely with Orange County’s Public Law Center to help those in dire need of legal services.  He also served as the 2015-2016 co-chair of the Orange County Coalition for Diversity in the Law.

Maciel represents clients in a variety of complex litigation matters, including partnership dissolution, products liability, contract disputes, intellectual property, and discrimination.  Maciel’s clients span multiple industries: real estate, automotive, housing, manufacturing, and fashion.
