Leslie C. Thorne Selected to Join Leadership Texas

January 22, 2016

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Leslie C. Thorne has been selected to join an elite network of more than 6,000 women as a member of the Leadership Texas Class of 2016.

Leadership Texas, now in its 34th consecutive year, was launched in 1983 as the first statewide program for women’s leadership development. It is patterned after, though not affiliated with, the co-educational civic programs that have found success in a number of cities throughout the state and nation. The flagship program of nonprofit social enterprise, LW, Leadership Texas is designed specifically to help women learn about critical issues outside of their own industries and spheres of influence.

“The theme for the 2016 program year is ‘The Future of Community: A State of Possibilities.’ Participants will visit San Antonio, Amarillo, Corpus Christi and Austin, where each city’s opportunities and response to challenges will be highlighted,” noted Linda Crompton, LW’s new CEO.

Thorne is one of 90 outstanding women leaders competitively selected from across the state to participate in the longest-running women’s leadership development program in the US. Throughout the year-long program, she will have the opportunity to broaden her perspective on our state by exploring the issues in four Texas cities and receiving cutting-edge information from recognized experts, government officials and other thought leaders which will positively inform her work and community for years to come

“I’m thrilled to be a part of Leadership Texas,” said Thorne. “This is a tremendous honor that I do not take lightly and I look forward to working with this esteemed group of women to make lasting change in our great state of Texas.”

At the firm, Thorne is a partner in the Litigation and Insurance Recovery Practice Groups. She has successfully represented the nation’s largest and most prominent corporations, as well as smaller and emerging companies, in all manner of commercial disputes. Clients also rely on Thorne’s counsel in dealing with underwriting and risk management issues, including drafting and negotiating insurance policies, insurance and indemnification provisions in corporate transactions, and claims presentation to insurers. She is a relentless advocate for her policyholder clients, representing them in connection with policies covering cyber liability, environmental and pollution liability, products liability, trade credit risks, professional liability, intellectual property claims, general liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, commercial crime, property losses and business interruption. Her extensive experience and strength in creatively analyzing complex coverage disputes enables her to develop the best strategies for quickly and cost-effectively obtaining the maximum recovery.

Apart from the work for her clients, Thorne is widely recognized as a leader in the legal community and the community at large. She currently serves on the Robert W. Calvert Inn of Court and as an ABA insurance coverage litigation additional insured subcommittee co-chair. Thorne also serves as the board chair for Manos de Cristo, a non-profit organization which provides basic needs, education and dental services to Austin’s disadvantaged population.
