Christian J Wood v Cendant Corporation and Avis Group Holdings Inc US District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma No 03CV298TCKFHM

A former Avis employee sued for copyright infringement and claimed to have created a software program before he began employment with the company. His attorneys argued that the software generated millions of dollars for Avis and other Cendant businesses, and that neither had been given permission to use the program and sought more than $90 million in damages. By exploring the software?s history, the defense team proved that the program had been backdated to make it appear as though it had been a preexisting creation of the plaintiff. The court found that the plaintiff created the program while working for Avis and Cendant and that no infringement took place. The court awarded no damages to the plaintiff.
