Diversity and Inclusion

At Haynes and Boone, diversity is not just programs and statistics, it is an important and integral part of our culture. Our firm is fully committed to diversity and inclusion. We strongly believe that diversity enhances innovation and the delivery of quality legal services to a diverse marketplace. In order to be responsive to our clients’ needs, we believe that our lawyers must reflect the diversity of our clients’ businesses as well as the communities in which we live and serve. Our firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts encompass a strategic action plan, a set of guiding values related to diversity and a commitment to a broad spectrum of community outreach. Firm leadership takes a personal interest in the recruitment, retention and advancement of our diverse lawyers through mentoring and participation in numerous diversity activities. Our diverse team of women, minority and LGBTQ lawyers play a pivotal role in our firm’s past, present and future development.

Attorney Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The driving force behind the firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts is the Attorney Diversity and Inclusion Committee composed of partners, associates, counsel and key members of management, including our director of diversity and inclusion, Jennifer Reddien. The Committee sets goals for its policies and programs related to the recruitment, retention, promotion and professional development of our diverse lawyers – and the next generation of diverse lawyers we hope to recruit to the profession. The Committee has enacted diversity and equality-related firm policies and programs, as well as implemented innovative initiatives designed to drive minority and female hiring and retention. We have several outstanding sub-committees that include Women Attorney Initiatives, Minority Attorney Initiatives, LGBTQ and Allies Attorney Initiatives, Pipeline Initiatives, Working Parents, Recruiting and Retention, and Business Development, all designed to develop and promote diversity and inclusion as a collective and sustained focus. Learn more about our efforts in our 2018 Diversity and Inclusion Year in Review.

Leaders in Diversity and Inclusion

Our lawyers actively pursue leadership roles outside of their commitments to the firm. Haynes and Boone also plays an active role in numerous leading legal diverse organizations such as the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, Texas Minority Counsel Program and National Association of Women Lawyers. Haynes and Boone, LLP has achieved certification in Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule 3.0 program, which measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities for recruitment, governance roles, equity partner promotions, and inclusion in formal pitches to clients.

Our diversity and inclusion initiatives encourage our lawyers to draw upon their unique experiences and backgrounds to develop their careers. Our lawyers come from 45 states and 26 foreign countries, and they speak 17 different languages, including Spanish, Russian, French, Portuguese and Chinese. We strongly believe that cultural and ethnic differences enhance innovation and the delivery of quality legal services to a diverse marketplace.
