Haynes and Boone Mexico City Welcomes Three Corporate Finance and M&A Lawyers, and New Practice Area


MEXICO CITY – Continuing its strategic and robust build-out in anticipation of Mexican energy and structural reforms in various sectors, Haynes and Boone, SC, with twenty years in the Mexican market, has now added a team of three corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and antitrust lawyers led by seasoned corporate Partner Jorge Sanchez from Goodrich, Riquelme y Asociados. Jorge is well regarded in both domestic and international markets by his peers as a long standing practitioner who fosters interdisciplinary work through a solid corporate practice and client base.

Jorge was drawn by Haynes and Boone as part of its strategy in line with other successful recent lateral hirings of leading lawyers in their fields, such as Ariel Ramos (Energy, Projects and Infrastructure), Jorge Labastida (Structured Finance), Rafael Carmona (Capital Markets) and Carlos Canales (Oil & Gas).

Jorge’s practices includes equity and asset transactions, M&A (domestic, cross-border and international), banking and finance, antitrust, mining and natural resources, public procurement, defense and security contracts, and structured and commodity finance, amongst others. He is acknowledged and ranked by several leading and independent international legal directories in practice areas such as Corporate/M&A, Natural Resources, Mining and Projects.

Jorge has also served as a professor of banking and financial law and contracts at different Mexican universities since 2007, and is an active member of several professional organizations, such as the International Bar Association (‘IBA’), a founding member of the Young Council of the Latin American Regional Forum of the IBA; the Mexican Mining Chamber (‘CAMIMEX’), the Mining Task Force at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, and chairs the Mining Committee of the Australia, New Zealand Mexico Business Council (‘ANZMEX’) of which he was President (2004-2011).

Associates Damian Gonzalez and Antonieta Cruz join Jorge in the move to Haynes and Boone.

Damian brings more than eight years of experience advising domestic and international clients doing business in Mexico. His practice focuses on Mergers and Acquisitions, Secured Transactions, Corporate and Commercial law, with an emphasis in the Mining and Natural Resources sectors.

Antonieta has experience in financial law, banking, corporate law, contracts, personal data protection, anti-money laundering, corporate governance and compliance, having worked in other law firms and as in-house lawyer of regulated entities pertaining to the Financial Services Industry.

The team has advised a large number of international clients and trading houses in the electricity, security, oil and gas and equipment sectors while participating in large Procurement Tenders with the Mexican Government, and successfully implemented corporate and financial compliance programs for a majority of their clients.
