Judith Elkin in the DowJones Daily Bankrupty Review: IWIRC Celebrates Two Decades of Women in Restructuring

At a time when female corporate leaders are exhorting their peers to lean in, women in the  restructuring profession are leaning on each other...

“Our goal was to be able to say to somebody: this woman knows as much about debtor-in-possession financing as much as any man in the room, and it has nothing to do with whether she has a child or not,” said Judith Elkin, a Haynes and Boone, LLP bankruptcy partner and a past IWIRC chair.

By emphasizing substantive programming and businessgenerating  opportunities, IWIRC’s members say the  group established itself as a serious organization.

“As soon as attorneys in firms saw that women were  referring business to each other, they saw the benefit  of IWIRC. That gained legitimacy for IWIRC,” Ms. Melnik said.
