Investment surges in US oil and gas

Thinking of dabbling in the oil and gas sector in the US? If so, Liza Mark, the administrative partner of the Shanghai office of Haynes and Boone, LLP, has some words of advice: ask yourself “what are the game rules of this industry?”

“Chinese investment in the US natural resources sector has surged in recent years. According to figures compiled by New York-based research firm Rhodium Group … the value of investments in the US energy sector more than tripled to US$11.86 billion in 2013, from US$3.06 billion in 2010. We are also beginning to see that private enterprises, as opposed to state-owned enterprises, are beginning to get into the game,” she says.
