Michael Stafford Joins Haynes and Boone's Houston Office

Former Government Lawyer Moves to Big Firm Life

Former Harris County Attorney Michael Stafford, who lost a bid for re-election in November 2008, landed on his feet at Haynes and Boone. On Jan. 5 Stafford joined the firm’s Houston office as counsel to help build the Dallas-based firm’s public law practice. Stafford says the timing is good because public infrastructure projects likely will be a big part of the economic stimulus package the incoming Obama administration wants the U.S. Congress to approve. “Initially what we are talking about is working with clients who have to deal with the government, putting together or making projects come to life,” he says. “We are looking at that as an opportunity.” Stafford’s new gig at HayBoo is a big change. He has spent the last 22 years working in the public sector, including the last eight years as Harris County attorney and four years before that as first assistant in the office.
