Diversity Scholars Program

The Haynes Boone Diversity Scholars Program has been established to attract outstanding diverse students to the private practice of law while helping these students be successful in law school through both work and mentorship experiences afforded by the program. Our Diversity Scholars Program includes a  9-10 week paid Summer Clerkship for 1L and 2L students and a stipend during the school year, as outlined below. Haynes Boone is committed to recruiting, retaining and advancing diverse lawyers and our Diversity Scholars Program is one of the many programs we have implemented to contribute toward enhancing the diversity of our firm and profession. Students interested in applying to this program are required to submit a diversity statement along with their application materials.

 

1L Diversity Scholarship - Potential Total Scholarship $25,000

$10,000 if students receive and accept our 1L summer offer

$7,500 if students receive and accept our 2L summer offer

$7,500 if students receive and accept our First Year Associate offer

 

2L Diversity Scholarship - Potential Total Scholarship $15,000

$7,500 if students receive and accept our 2L summer offer

$7,500 if students receive and accept our First Year Associate offer

 

First Year Associate Scholarship - Potential Total Scholarship $7,500

$7,500 if students receive and accept our First Year Associate offer


Since 2003, our firm has participated in the Houston Bar Association 1L Minority Scholars program that provides a summer clerkship in our Houston office to a first-year minority law student from one of the three area law schools in Houston. For more information about this initiative, please contact the Recruiting Offices of one of these schools.

The firm also participates in the New York City Bar Diversity Fellowship Program, which is available to all underrepresented populations in the field of law. The goal of the Fellowship Program is to offer first-year students from underrepresented populations a unique summer employment opportunity in outstanding law firms and corporate law departments

Haynes Boone is also proud to be a participating member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s 1L Scholars program.   This program offers selected Haynes Boone 1L Diversity Scholars the opportunity to attend the annual LCLD Scholars Summit during the summer which provides valuable professional development and networking experiences.  For more information, please visit the LCLD website

The firm also participates in the AT&T Summer Fellows Program.  AT&T is a valued firm client, and this program offers select Haynes Boone 1L Diversity Scholars the opportunity to work in-house at AT&T’s Dallas Headquarters for two weeks during the summer program.

Candidate Evaluation and Recruitment Process

Haynes Boone uses the Suited Assessment as part of our candidate evaluation and recruitment process to expand our consideration of candidates beyond traditional hiring metrics. Information on what is measured by the assessment, Suited’s data retention policies, and how to request a reasonable accommodation may be found here ¹.
