What You Need to Know about the College Application Process

September 16, 2015

The Working Parents Committee of Haynes and Boone, LLP is pleased to present an informative program designed to provide tips and best practices to assist with planning and preparing your college-bound students for the college application process. Our Working Parents Committee, which regularly puts on programs that address parental concerns, continuously assists our many colleagues with children by helping to balance the often conflicting needs of work and family.

Topics will include:
  • Where to apply
  • Factors that matter the most when applying - including your personal ethos (i.e., who is the applicant as an individual; what is he/she seeking from the college experience; how open is he/she to new challenges and environments), standardized testing, and recommendations
  • How admission committees review your application
  • Tips to make your college essay stand out

In our ever competitive world, college admission is a major concern for parents of high school children. The Working Parents Committee decided to arrange for an expert to better inform parents as to what to expect, how to plan, and how to cope with this process. Originally an internal initiative, the committee opened this program to clients and their significant others because this is an area that is so fraught with anxiety for individuals with high school age children.
