Higher Education

Colleges and universities face a more complex array of legal and regulatory challenges than at any time in the past. Haynes and Boone understands the legal environment in which institutions of higher education operate. We also understand the intense scrutiny they face as they perform a vital societal mission and serve diverse constituencies who are deeply invested in the well-being of these institutions.

Members of our Higher Education Practice Group have served on the boards at some of the country’s most highly regarded educational institutions giving them a unique insight into a broad range of issues facing today’s colleges and universities.  We have advised boards on significant and sensitive legal matters and governance issues. We have represented a private university in providing advice on various Title IX compliance matters. We also represented the Big 12 Conference and its member organizations.

Team members also draw on their representations of leading companies, executives, corporate boards, investment firms, sports franchises and other nonprofits to help higher education clients navigate high-stakes, complex situations and legal challenges.

Our interdisciplinary higher education team has the experience and sophistication to counsel elite colleges and universities on their most pressing legal issues, from defending high-profile investigations and litigation to advising clients on the gamut of compliance, contracts, tax, intellectual property, real estate, employment and licensing issues that they face on a daily basis.

We work collaboratively with colleges and universities to help them resolve matters as successfully and expeditiously as possible, always keeping in mind the need to preserve the goodwill that our clients have developed over generations. Our culture promotes teamwork, ensuring we match our clients’ needs to the best people to do their work.
