Zachary A. Halbur

Zach Halbur is a registered patent attorney in the Fort Worth office of Haynes Boone. He has extensive experience in obtaining both utility and design patents, building domestic and international patent portfolios, and helping clients establish and maintain best practice policies and procedures relating to patent protection.

In representing clients before the U.S. Patent Office, Zach has honed a variety of strategies and techniques to quickly obtain meaningful patent protection for a wide range of technologies including, for example, all aspects of oil and gas exploration and production operations (including hydraulic fracturing), medical devices and simulators, automotive, airline, construction, packaging, computer hardware and software, laboratory instrumentation, food processing, HVAC systems, outdoor flame and cooking systems, and a wide variety of other consumer products.

Working closely with clients to understand their business goals, Zach frequently conducts patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and validity investigations, and prepares related opinion letters. He has also helped clients enforce their patent rights, avoid patent rights held by others, respond to allegations of infringement, and institute post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent Office. Zach also supports the firm’s intellectual property litigation efforts by conducting due diligence and infringement, validity, and claim construction analyses.

Before joining the firm, Zach worked as a mechanical engineer, designing and analyzing tooling systems to meet specific manufacturing needs. Prior to that, he also obtained experience as a mechanical engineer for a large petrochemical company, performing diagnostics, repair, and reliability upgrades of hydrocarbon processing systems.
